Carlos Alcaraz will participate this year for the first time in the 1,000 Masters in Miami, thanks to the invitation granted by the tournament organizers. The 17-year-old from Murcia will face, possibly this Wednesday, the Finn of 21 and 83º of the world Emil Ruusuvuori, as provided by the draw for the ATP box that took place this Monday. It will be his first match against this tennis player, who fell in the second round of the Australian Open against Pedro Martínez, who will begin his career in the Florida event against the American Tennys Sandgren. Alcaraz comes from losing with honor in Acapulco against who was ultimately champion of that ATP 500, Alexander Zverev.
Roberto Bautista, the only Spanish seed (7th), will debut directly in the second round, in which he could meet up with Andy Murray, whom he beat two years ago in Melbourne, if the British beat South African Lloyd Harris, finalist last Saturday in the Dubai tournament (he lost to Russian Aslan Karatsev). Feliciano López will start against Australian Alexei Popyrin, and Fernando Verdasco will be seen in his reappearance (he has not played since October 2020) with a rival from a previous one in which Mario Vilella and Bernabé Zapata compete.
The number one favorite in a tournament with many important absences is Daniil Medvedev. The first opponent of the Russian will be the American Sam Querrey or the Taiwanese Yen-Hsun Lu. They are not Djokovic, Nadal, Thiem, Federer, Wawrinka, Berrettini, Monfils, Carreño or Kyrgios, among others. On the opposite side of the table is number two, Stefanos Tsitsipas.
