Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin addresses fans for the first time after suffering cardiac arrest

CINCINNATI (UNITED STATES), 8 Ene. (dpa/EP) –

The Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin, who remains admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) after suffering cardiac arrest, has addressed his followers for the first time through social networks, asking them to follow “praying” for him.

“I am grateful to all those who have reached out to me and have prayed. This will make me stronger on the road to recovery. Keep praying for me,” the 24-year-old athlete wrote on his official account on the social network Twitter.

The Buffalo Bills pro has since had his breathing tube removed, the next step in his remarkable recovery since he went into cardiac arrest and was revived during Monday’s NFL game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

The team said that his neurological functions remain intact and that they have spoken with his family and with the care team at the Hospital of the University of Cincinnati.

Hamlin was going to make a tackle midway through the first quarter of Monday’s game, a typical defensive play in a football game, when the Bills defenseman tackled Bengals receiver Tee Higgins to the ground.

Higgins went shoulder-first on his running action and hit the defender in the chest. Hamlin got up after the tackle, straightened his helmet, and collapsed seconds later. He had to be revived in the field and his condition was critical.
