Bimbo donates almost 360,000 slices of bread to Banco de Alimentos for the Global Energy Race

MADRID, 4 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Grupo Bimbo will donate nearly 360,000 slices of bread, double the number in 2020, to the Spanish Food Bank Federation (FESBAL) thanks to the solidarity initiative of the Global Energy Race (GER), a virtual international race in which they participated about 18,000 runners in Spain.

Present at the donation ceremony were José Luis Saiz, CEO of Grupo Bimbo Iberia; and Ana Pérez Benayas, director of External Relations of FESBAL, as well as the project’s ambassadors, the journalist and presenter Roberto Leal, the lifestyle and wellness influencers Marta Pombo and Fátima Cantó; and the fitness world professional Cesc Escolà.

With the aim of promoting the practice of physical activity and the integration of families among society, the GER has managed to involve almost 18,000 runners in Spain in a virtual way this year.

In this way, Grupo Bimbo has donated 360,000 slices of bread for vulnerable groups that serve the Food Banks associated with FESBAL in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia and Seville.

“In each edition, the Global Energy Race manages to make history. This year in Spain we have managed to double the results and be among the countries with the highest rate of citizen involvement. We are very proud of the project, but above all, of the support received from society to obtain a large donation for FESBAL’s Food Banks. Thanks to all, also to our great ambassadors, a fundamental part of the success of the initiative, “said José Luis Saiz, General Director of Grupo Bimbo Iberia.

Ana Pérez Benayas assured that FESBAL and its 54 associated Food Banks feel “especially grateful” to Grupo Bimbo for promoting this solidarity initiative. “The slices of bread obtained by the participation of the runners in Spain will contribute to the work of the Food Banks to continue serving the most disadvantaged people,” he said.

This race, which takes place simultaneously in 127 countries, has reached more than 294,000 participants in this sixth edition and has reached a global donation of 5.8 million slices of bread. In this sense, Spain has positioned itself among the five countries with the highest citizen involvement and, therefore, with the highest level of collection obtained.
