Benzema catches Camacho

Karim Benzema continues to write pages in the history books of Real Madrid. The striker added another record as a Real Madrid player against Seviila: he played his 577th game with the white jersey. A figure that equals him with Camacho as the eighth most capped player in club history. One more step towards legend.

And it will most likely not be the last Karim gives this season. Benzema has within his reach this season surpass the number of games of Paco Gento (600) and Fernando Hierro (601) and climb to sixth position of that ranking of historical madridistas. If he fulfills his current contract, until March 2023, the next campaign will be able to exceed 645 matches for Santillana and approach Ramos’s 671. Only the trio of the 700 games would remain: Sanchís (710), Casillas (725) and Raúl (741).

The forward is on the way to adding another milestone, coinciding with his 34th birthday on December 19. That weekend Madrid receives a visit from Cádiz at the Bernabéu and, if he plays all the league matches until then, it will be his 400th match in the domestic competition. It will not be the last bar to attack this season. He can climb to the third position of historical scorers for Madrid, after having surpassed Santillana (290 goals). Benzema has 295 in his 13 seasons at Madrid and his goal to get on the podium is Di Stéfano’s 307 goals. He is nine victories away from reaching 400 with the white jersey and 23 matches out of 600 with Madrid.

In the Champions League, Benzema fights with Lewandowski to be the third all-time top scorer in the competition. The madridista credits the Polish 76 to 82, far both from Cristiano’s 141 and Messi’s 123. The one who can overcome without much difficulty is Paolo Maldini as the seventh player with the most games in the top continental competition. The Italian stayed at 139 and Benzema goes for 135.
