Bellingham, MVP of the Super Cup: “I hope to give more than one assist to Mbappé”

MADRID, 15 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham is confident that he will be important for the Whites this season, as he was on Wednesday in the 2-0 win over Atalante in the European Super Cup final, in a good partnership with Kylian Mbappé.

“I don’t care where I play. I wasn’t a striker last year either. Today I’ve dropped a bit to the left, but football flows. I feel comfortable in any position to help my team. It’s easier to score goals if I play closer to the opponent’s goal, but maybe this season I’ll have to adapt. I think that’s fine, I want to do well,” he said at a press conference.

The MVP of the Super Cup in Warsaw, who was instrumental in his team’s breakthrough in the second half, was asked about the other protagonist, Mbappé, on his debut. “He’s incredible. Before I thought he was, but now that I can play with him I see his details, his speed, his quality and how hard he works. He’s a leader on the pitch. People had been talking about him coming for a long time, so it seems like he’s been with us for a while,” he said.

“I expected it, of course. He’s a player capable of writing his own story. He always does well for his teams and he did it again today. It’s great to have been involved in his first goal and I hope to give him more than one assist in the rest of the season,” he added after the 2-0 victory that sealed the final.

Bellingham, who acknowledged that the second half “opened up the game” and praised the Italians’ good performance, was also asked about his shoulder problem. “I feel very good. I have worked very hard during the pre-season. The protection I was wearing was a precaution, towards the end of the season it had bothered me so wearing it helped me,” he said.

“I have to trust in the work I’m doing with Pintus and the rest of the coaching staff and the physical trainers. They are great professionals. Anything can happen in football and we’ll talk about it with the club. For now I want to focus on playing football as well as possible,” he confessed.
