Belgium vindicates itself against Romania

Tedesco’s team show their potential with their first victory in Group E with the four teams on three points

MADRID, 22 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Belgium beat Romania (2-0) this Saturday on the second day of Euro 2024 within a Group E that will reach the final match with the four teams on three points, a must-win for the ‘red devils’ where they demonstrated their weapons .

Domenico Tedesco’s team changed the face of their terrible debut against Slovakia, with changes to their system and lineup, and after two minutes they took the lead through Youri Tielemans. Kevin De Bruyne, Jeremy Doku and Romelu Lukaku were a nightmare for a Romania that, however, had its chances and did not give up.

Belgium jumped to the Rhein Energie in Cologne, stung in its pride and, in the midst of voracious pressure, made it 1-0 after two minutes. Tielemans, one of the changes in the eleven, was the one who stole the ball and who ended up finishing from the front, after Lukaku held the ball until he decided correctly.

The ‘red devils’ took possession but Ukraine did not give up the attack, with the immediate response in a header from Radu Dragusin. However, Edward Iordanescu’s men had to survive in the first half, unable to cope with all the defensive work that the rival demanded, with an unleashed Doku and an unstoppable Lukaku, although both without aim.

After the break, the game was even, attractive in the back and forth, because the Romanians remembered their offensive idea. Mihaila and Dennis Man brought the tie closer to the score, while De Bruyne began to connect with Lukaku. Belgium’s all-time top scorer accumulated chances in that partnership, but between goalkeeper Nita and the VAR he was left without seeing the net.

By half a foot, offside prevented the score from 2-0 after the hour mark, but shortly after, in a goal kick, De Bruyne stood in front of the rival goal to seal the three points. Everyone in Group E thus adds a victory, after Ukraine’s victory yesterday against Slovakia, ahead of a heart-stopping final day.
