MADRID, 25 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Belgian cyclist Tijl De Decker has died this Friday, at the age of 22, due to an accident suffered last Wednesday with a car during training in his country, as confirmed by the Lotto-Dstny team.

Tijl crashed heavily into the rear of the car during his training and was taken to hospital in Lier (Belgium), where he immediately underwent surgery. That same Wednesday he was later transferred to the university hospital in Antwerp, where he has not been able to survive despite the efforts of the doctors.

Lotto-Dstny CEO Stéphane Heulot has confessed that he and his team are “devastated”. “We will always remember him as a talented young man and a great person off the bike. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones, and our thoughts are with them during this difficult time,” added Heulot.
