Bautista and Carballés say goodbye to the tournament in Naples

Carreño saw his match postponed due to the humidity of the track

MADRID, 20 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Spanish tennis players Roberto Bautista and Roberto Carballés finished their career in the second round of the tournament in Naples (Italy), falling this Thursday against Mackenzie McDonald and Matteo Berrettini, while Pablo Carreño could not complete his debut.

Bautista, who lost last week in his first match at the Gijón tournament against Sebastian Korda, saw his path cut short in the Neapolitan ATP 250 against another American 6-4, 6-4. Despite starting by breaking his rival, the Spaniard gave up the first set.

History repeated itself in the second set and Bautista was able to get ahead. The sleeve had alternatives for both, with little security in the service turns, but it was McDonald who took better advantage of his options to reach the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, Carballés suffered the revenge (6-4, 6-2) of a Berrettini who lost last week in Florence against the Canarian. The local idol and second seed took the first set with a ‘break’ in the seventh game and in the second set he was more forceful, with a 5-1 that sentenced the match.

On the other hand, Carreño, first seeded, was barely able to warm up in his debut against the Italian Fabio Fognini. With 3-0 in favor of the Spaniard, the match was postponed to Friday due to excessive humidity on the track, a problem that has been repeated the two previous days.
