MADRID, 20 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Bilbao referee Olatz Rivera Olmedo is promoted to the UEFA Elite category, the highest European label, where she will coincide with Marta Huerta de Aza from Palencia, being the second Spanish referee in this category, according to the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).
“Spanish refereeing is in luck after the promotion to the UEFA ELITE category of the international referee Olatz Rivera Olmedo. She joins, in this way, the select group of referees who referee the major international competitions for both clubs and national teams,” announced the RFEF through a statement published on its website.
Likewise, the Basque referee joins Huerta de Aza and places Spain for the first time in its history with two female referees in the top category and the only country along with Portugal, Italy and Romania to have two female referees in the elite.
“A piece of news that endorses the work that the RFEF Technical Committee of Referees, chaired by Luis Medina Cantalejo, is doing with the training and promotion of women’s refereeing together with Yolanda Parga and Marta Frías,” added the press release.
“The next major international event for women’s refereeing, in addition to the current edition of the Champions League, where Spanish referees are usually appointed, is the European National Team Championship that will be held in Switzerland next July 2025,” the statement concluded.
