Badosa overwhelms Gauff and reaches the round of 16 at the Mutua Madrid Open

The Spanish tennis player Paula Badosa defeated the American Coco Gauff this Saturday by a resounding 6-3, 6-0 in the round of 32 of the Mutua Madrid Open, the fourth WTA 1000 tournament of the season, thus accessing the round of 16 .

At the Manolo Santana Stadium, Badosa has exhibited a better version this time than the one he showed last Thursday during his debut against the Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto. In fact, in less than an hour and a quarter, the Spanish has overwhelmed Gauff to get a victory of merit.

With a high percentage of points won in the return of the second serves, Badosa surpassed the American in an initial set where the decisive ‘break’ came in the fifth game. Thus, the Catalan consolidated immediately (4-2) and fastened that set without problems.

For the second set, Gauff was restless in the opening game but quickly gave up another key break (2-0). That slab was too heavy for the one from Delray Beach, who currently occupies fourth place in the WTA ranking. The victory earned Badosa a place in the round of 16, where she will play against the winner of the duel between the also Spanish Rebeka Masarova and the Greek Maria Sakkari.

Meanwhile, in the ATP draw, Bernabé Zapata, also a Spaniard, qualified for the round of 32 of the Masters 1000, beating the British Daniel Evans 6-3, 6-2 in 1 hour and 20 minutes. His next rival will be the Russian Roman Safiullin, executioner of the American Tommy Paul (6-3 and 7-6[3]).
