The Spanish defender of Atlético de Madrid César Azpilicueta suffers a tear in the external meniscus of his right leg, an injury he suffered during the victory (4-2) against Real Madrid in the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey 2023-2024, according to reported the red and white club.
“César Azpilicueta finished the Copa del Rey match against Real Madrid with some discomfort in his knee. The international has undergone various medical tests and the report offered by the club's medical services indicates that the Navarrese defender suffers a torn meniscus external,” the club highlighted on its website.
The club assured that “the definitive treatment for the recovery of the injury will be decided shortly.” The center back replaced Rodrigo De Paul in the 106th minute, entering extra time, although he had to leave the game after 10 minutes.
The Navarrese could miss several games, with an injury similar to the one suffered by the young Spanish midfielder Pablo Barrios, in his case in the internal meniscus and which kept him off the playing fields for more than a month.
