MADRID, 10 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Atlético de Madrid ranked second in the 2023-2024 F League after beating Betis 0-2 and taking advantage of the setbacks in the form of the defeat of both Real Madrid against Sevilla (1-3) and Levante UD against Athletic Club (1-0), in matches corresponding to the eleventh day of a championship that continues to be led with a firm hand by FC Barcelona.
The red and white team did not fail this weekend despite having a difficult visit to Betis, but the early goal from Argentine Estefanía Banini was key. In the 73rd minute, Ajibade sealed the victory for the Copa de la Reina champion, who moved one point ahead of Real Madrid and Levante UD, while Madrid CFF also took advantage of the day.
The Madrid team showed that it is not very reliable and could not beat a strong Sevilla that attacked the Alfredo di Stéfano thanks to two goals beyond the 90th minute. Amanda Sampedro made it 0-1 in the second half and despite the fact that the Dane Caroline Moeller equalized in the final stages, the Sevillistas took their fourth consecutive victory with goals from Arola Aparicio and Gema Gili in the 94th and 100th, respectively.
Real Madrid was left with third position, the last one that gives access to the Champions League, because Levante UD, with whom they are tied on points, did not win in Lezama either, where they lost their undefeated status against an Athletic Club that made Ane Azkona's goal count at the beginning of the second half. Meanwhile, Madrid CFF added the same 24 points with an epic comeback against Valencia (3-4).
The 'che' team had a 3-1 lead until well into the match, but in the last 20 minutes, the Madrid team came back to take advantage of the rest of the results and ratify their candidacy to fight for the 'Champions' positions. Karen Araya,
Aldana Cometti and, already in injury time, Ana González sealed the great night in Madrid at the Antonio Puchades Stadium.
The one who did not fail was the leader FC Barcelona, which is already eight points ahead after beating 5-0 despite the losses against an SD Eibar that resisted until shortly after the break when Norwegian Caroline Graham Hansen conceded a goal. From there, the young Dutchwoman Esme Brugts took center stage, making her big debut as a scorer with a hat trick in eight minutes, while another young woman, Ari Arias, closed the scoring.
Furthermore, Levante Las Planas saved a point on their visit to Villarreal (2-2) after equalizing 2-0 in the final minutes and with a penalty tie in the 97th minute, and Costa Adeje Tenerife returned to the path of victory after two consecutive defeats by beating Granada 2-0. Finally, Real Sociedad won 1-2 against last-place Sporting Club Huelva.
