Atlético gets on the podium as a tribute to ‘Cholo’

The rojiblanco team strikes Sevilla (6-1) with great goals from Memphis, Griezmann and Morata

MADRID, 4 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Atlético de Madrid thrashed Sevilla (6-1) this Saturday on matchday 24 of LaLiga Santander held at the Cívitas Metropolitano, a local recital against an Andalusian siege that allows the rojiblancos to assault third place in the table on a day of Tribute to Diego Pablo Simeone.

The Atlético fiefdom won integers to recover its essence and strength in a year that has not been the best with a feast to take advantage of the draw the day before against Real Sociedad and thus climb to the league podium, with 45 points, one more than the Basques . Meanwhile, Sevilla, in their fourth game without winning out of the last five, their crisis pending relegation emerges.

With the ‘Cholo’ party for surpassing Luis Aragonés as the coach with the most games in charge of Atlético (613), the Metropolitan continued the celebration thanks to Memphis. The Dutchman responded to the ownership by breaking the rival defense in his uncheck on 23′ and after two minutes he also shot the second.

With 2-0 and Sevilla losing one ball after another in midfield, the Madrid team lived quietly until, just before the break, En-Nesyri cut the gap with a good ball that Gueye won. It was a mirage, because the local win seemed closer and, at the restart, the sensations were confirmed.

Griezmann joined the party with a tremendous whiplash to make the third of the night, with a hug for ‘Cholo’ as a celebration, and Sampaoli’s plans changed. The visiting coach had to put forwards when he had other changes waiting on the wing, but Sevilla was a toy in the hands of an Atlético team eager to take advantage of the favorable winds.

That was how Carrasco made the fourth, in a well-braided play until a last pass from Barrios, quite the opposite of an Andalusian team denied, as in Rakitic’s missed penalty, which missed the seriousness of the absent Fernando. Two minutes after that maximum penalty on the post, Atlético extended the win with an Álvaro Morata who did not want to lose territory.

The Spanish international came off the bench with a double, the 6-1 of special beauty and quality, to turn the Metropolitan into a party, with less anger between whistles and chants from one side and the other from the same fans thanks to the goals. Sevilla, who have not beaten Atlético at home since 2008, signed a disaster before the round of 16 of the Europa League against Fenerbahçe.
