Atlético adds and continues with Griezmann

The Frenchman scores the 1-0 that broke Mallorca in the 16th consecutive victory at the Metropolitano

MADRID, 25 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Atlético de Madrid beat RCD Mallorca (1-0) this Saturday on matchday 14 of LaLiga EA Sports to extend Cívitas Metropolitano’s league streak to 16 consecutive wins, thanks to a great goal by Antoine Griezmann in the 64th minute.

The Frenchman, who did not seem to be having his best day, was once again decisive in breaking down the Balearic defense, which was losing effectiveness in the second half. After the break came Atlético’s shots on goal, with poor aim from Álvaro Morata, and the goal with which the red and whites surpassed FC Barcelona in the table and put the pressure on Girona and Real Madrid.

The local team did not have a bad start, with some arrivals that, due to the way ‘Cholo’ complained, could not have continuity. Atlético needed a lot of mobility up front to surprise the vermilion wall and from the start, both Correa and Morata gave it to them. The man from Madrid failed to finish off the first after three minutes and the Argentinian finished off a good play by Samuel Lino.

The red-and-white intensity decreased and Mallorca began to feel comfortable, with some good results as well, looking for Dani Rodríguez and Abdón Prats. Aguirre’s men defended forward and the rotations after the national team break were noticeable in the locals. Atlético lacked spark, beyond Lino and Pablo Barrios against a Mallorca with two weeks to prepare the plan.

The youth player left the best play of the first half, shortly after withdrawing in defense in a vital way, in a pipe and overflow on the right wing, but Morata did not take advantage of the center. Mario Hermoso asked for a penalty on a corner kick but the break came with no shots on goal and with Mallorca satisfied with that plan.

However, the second half brought an athletic step forward and the chances continued. Lino maintained his role as agitator but Morata continued with his sights turned away. The Spanish international rushed in, he also tried from afar, but in a cross from Hermoso, Griezmann acted as ‘9’ with a perfect header (1-0).

The ‘Little Prince’ came to the rescue of his team again just when Aguirre had begun to move his team from the bench. The changes did work for the visitors, as did the need to go up in search of chances. With a week of three games, ‘Cholo’ also looked to the bench and Riquelme was the one who came closest to giving the Metropolitano peace of mind.

The Colchonero team had to suffer, but a Mallorca angry with the goal did not take advantage of what they had, especially one from Larin and another from Ndiaye alone against Oblak. He returned to Memphis after two months of injury, but it earned Atlético a narrow victory that could be very good next Sunday if they win at the Camp Nou. For Aguirre’s team, the defeat means that the relegation zone is already burning.
