Asensio, Ceballos, Merino and 6 of the Absolute, to the Games

Luis de la Fuente has announced the list of 18 summoned for the Tokyo Olympic Games soccer tournament, which will be played between July 22 and August 7. In the call, as AS had advanced, there are Dani Ceballos and Marco Asensio, who occupy two of the three places available for people over 24 years of age. The third is for Mikel Merino, who has recovered from his back injury that caused him to miss the European Championship and is available for the Olympics.

Six have also been summoned who are with the Absolute playing the Eurocup: Unai Simón, Eric García, Pau Torres, Pedri, Oyarzabal and Dani Olmo. There would have been more, but Rodrigo, Fabián and Ferran have not been allowed to go by their clubs (just like Borja Mayoral). These footballers will join later, because the Olympic is concentrating this Wednesday and they will arrive when their participation in the Eurocup ends.

In the rest of the summoned, without news, with a hard core of footballers who got the ticket in the Eurocup won in 2019 and others who are of age and during these two years have earned a gap. De la Fuente has given a list of 22 but only 18 will be registered. Another four will travel to Tokyo with the rest of the summoned, but they can only participate in the event of injury to one of the players. This option can be used during the championship, not only if the injury occurs in the days before the start.

Spain is leaving this Thursday to Benidorm, where they will be concentrated until July 13, the day they travel to Japan. That date has been chosen in anticipation of the best scenario, that Spain wins the European Championship (the final is July 11), so that those who are with the Absolute have time to travel with the rest of the expedition.

Before the tournament, they will play in Kobe a friendly against Japan on July 17, the only one before the premiere on July 22 in Sapporo against Egypt. Three days later, on Sunday 25, they play in the same city against Australia and will close the group on July 28.
