Bookmakers alerted the FA that an “unusual” amount of money was wagered that an Arsenal player, whose identity has not been revealed, received a yellow card in a Premier League match this season.

As reported by The Athletic, the FA is investigating the matter and, Although he knows the identity of the footballer, he will not reveal it to safeguard his privacy.

What tipped off the bookmakers was the fact that the money wagered, instead of going to a conventional market such as match winner or goalscorer, went to a more residual market such as which player will receive a yellow card.

This type of incident has a history in England and in 2018 Lincoln City defender Bradley Wood was suspended for six years for intentionally receiving yellow cards.
