Argentine striker ‘Taty’ Castellanos signs for Lazio

MADRID, 21 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Argentine footballer Valentín ‘Taty’ Castellanos, 24, became a new striker for SS Lazio this Friday, coming from New York City FC (NYCFC), although he played last season on loan at Girona FC (also part of the City Football Group).

The Roman club has confirmed on its website the definitive acquisition of Castellanos’ “sports contract rights” in Major League Soccer (MLS). His signing has resulted in “a club record transfer fee and one of the highest in the history of Major League Soccer,” NYCFC highlighted in another press release.

Although the New York entity has not revealed the amount of the transfer, the NYCFC has indicated that it will receive a percentage of the sale if Castellanos is transferred to another club in the future. The Argentine striker arrived at Girona in July 2022, where he scored 14 goals and provided an assist in 37 games.

“Castellanos’ era will be best remembered for his incredible four goals against Real Madrid in a LaLiga game, becoming the first player to score four goals against Real Madrid in a single league game in more than 75 years,” the press text underlined.

“‘Taty’ is a legend here and will be especially remembered for his exploits in 2021, winning the Golden Boot and helping the club win its first MLS Cup. We all wish ‘Taty’ the best and are excited to continue his journey in Italy,” said NYCFC Sporting Director David Lee.
