Argentina will release format and VAR

The Argentine Professional Football League (LPF) raffled this Tuesday the match schedule for the next championship of the First division that in addition to having a new format will have for the first time the system of video arbitration (VAR).

The tournament will begin on July 16, will end on the weekend of December 12 and the superclassic between River plate Y Boca Juniors It will be played on October 3

“The tournament will be played on 25 dates, all against all on one wheel, and the only thing that will not be raffled will be the seats of the classics, which will be reversed with respect to the Cup that was played in the first half of this year”, reported the LPF on its website.

The national director of arbitration of the AFA, Federico Beligoy, told Efe that the VAR is expected to be operational “from the fourth or fifth date of the championship.”

“As soon as the tournament starts, the stadiums must be certified with the technology they require,” he said.

In 2020, an area destined for this system that will be implemented in the local tournament was built on the premises of the Argentine Football Association (AFA) in Ezeiza, province of Buenos Aires.

The VAR will work with an instant sending of images to the Ezeiza center and will have video operators who will have direct communication with the referees on the fields.

Given that not all stadiums in the country have an Internet connection through fiber optics, they will solve this problem with mobile video operating units.

NEWS FROM THE NEW TOURNAMENT

The Professional Soccer League will return to the format of a league of all against all, with 25 dates, and the competition by zones and eliminatory will be discarded.

In addition, the localities of the classic games will be reversed, in this way River Plate will be able to face Boca Juniors in its stadium, the Monumental.

This tournament will not have relegation, although the team scores will be taken into account when calculating the averages to define which teams will be relegated by the end of 2022.

During the first semester of this year the Professional Soccer League Cup was played, which had 26 teams divided into two groups and was won by Colón de Santa Fe.

At the end of 2020 the Diego Maradona Cup was played, which had 24 teams in four zones and Boca Juniors won in January of this year.

The last tournament that was played in the system of all against all, without subsequent elimination phase, was the Superliga Argentina 2019/2020 that Boca Juniors also won.

“We will have five dates during the week, considering that we will have many teams in international competitions, so it will be a busy semester,” said the vice president of the LPF Cristian Malaspina during the draw.
