Argentina ends Brazil’s long reign in blind 5-a-side football

PARIS, Sep. 6 (by EUROPA PRESS special correspondent Ramón Chamorro) –

The Argentine national team ended Brazil’s long reign at the Paralympic Games in blind 5-a-side football on Thursday, winning all the gold medals since the sport’s introduction in Athens 2004 and being eliminated in the semi-finals of Paris 2024 in a penalty shoot-out.

No one had been able to stop the Brazilian team from winning the championship title for 20 years and the Albiceleste finally achieved it, although they were unable to do so with a victory in regulation time and had to do so in a penalty shootout after a very competitive match that ended without goals.

There, the two South American teams missed two penalties each and the eighth penalty was taken with Argentina 4-3 ahead. It was the turn of a legend of this sport, Ricardinho, whose shot hit the post and gave the ticket to the final to an Argentine team, three-time Paralympic runner-up, who will face the host France on the field at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, who beat Colombia 1-0.
