Araujo: “I consider myself a born leader, whether I’m a captain or not”

MADRID, 21 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The defender of the FC Barcelona Ronald Araujo trusts in a good season the one that comes, with reinforcements and a clear demand in the League of Champions, at the same time that he sees himself again as a “leader” whether he is captain or not after the departure of Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.

“I’m happy to be here for one more pre-season,” Barça’s ‘4’ said this Thursday, to the media who had traveled to the United States, on the same pitch as the Memorial Coliseum, after the first training session in Los Angeles.

The Uruguayan central defender was asked about that option of being captain. “I feel important. We already saw last season, and this time I want to help the team to sign a better season than last year, especially in Europe,” he said.

“It is always a pride that this possibility can be given, but it is something that his teammates choose. I consider myself a leader regardless of whether I wear the ribbon or not. I consider myself a born leader,” he added.

Araujo did not hesitate to refer to the Champions League, talking about the new season they are preparing. “I think we have to go step by step and be humble, know where we come from. We will fight for the Champions League. We have a great team and we want to compete in all competitions,” he said.

On the other hand, the Barcelona defender referred to the signings, especially the one who could be his new partner at the back, Iñigo Martínez. “They are three important players, with a lot of filming and who can help. I hope they join us and I’m sure they’ll contribute. They have experience. We know their quality and they have a lot of experience, although they haven’t been able to train yet,” he finished.
