Appointment with the Bernabéu

The return of the public to the stands of the Bernabéu already has a date and time. LaLiga has communicated the schedules of the fourth day, in which Real Madrid will host Celta on Saturday, September 11, at 4:15 p.m.. It will be the first game for Ancelotti's team at home this season and the Madrid team's reappearance in front of their fans after more than a year and a half of hiatus due to the pandemic.

What is not yet known in how many spectators will be able to access the Madrid venue and under what conditions. The 40% of maximum capacity that Health and the autonomous communities agreed in the Interterritorial Health Council on August 4 is in force temporarily until the third day, so the authorities must decide whether to extend or modify this limit for the resumption of the championship after the first team stoppage and the start of the Champions League and the Europa League.

If that 40% is maintained, 32,000 fans will be able to witness the match in situ. The club, for its part, must establish the criteria for the distribution of tickets among its members and subscribers if the capacity for that match is still not allowed to be completed.. Madrid has 92,000 members, of which some 68,000 have a season pass. The entity informed them in mid-June that it would not charge the amount of the subscription until knowing under what conditions they will be able to access the stadium.

The works at the Bernabéu, meanwhile, continue their course. The white fans will find a stadium quite different from the one they left behind with a smile from ear to ear on March 1, 2020 after defeating (2-0) Barça in the Classic. The cover is totally changed. A good part of the structure that will support the new roof has already been erected and the first roof panels have begun to be placed. Two new access towers have also been erected on the east side (the one facing Paseo de la Castellana) to replace the old towers B and C, which have begun to collapse.

Work is now focused on having the grass ready for the 9/11 event and on equipping the bleacher sectors that had been demolished to facilitate the work of the machinery. Madrid, as other clubs that have undergone renovations in their stadiums have done in recent seasons, asked LaLiga to play their first three away from home to be able to advance in the works (with the stoppage of selections another week of work is won) and have everything ready for their first home match.
