MADRID, 20 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

British tennis player Andy Murray and Japanese player Naomi Osaka will play the Mutua Madrid Open after receiving the invitation from the organization of the tournament, which will take place at the Caja Mágica from April 26 to May 8.

Former world number one Andy Murray, a three-time Grand Slam champion, will participate for the twelfth time in the Masters 1,000 in Madrid, a tournament he has not played since 2017 and has won twice (2008 and 2015). In this way, the tennis player has reversed his decision to skip the entire clay court season.

For her part, along with Osaka, who has won four ‘Grand Slams’ and who has struggled to shine on the red clay of Madrid, Linda Fruhvirtova, Mónica Puig, Marta Kostyuk and Qinwen Zheng will join in the women’s singles draw. The other invitations for the men’s singles final draw have been for Carlos Gimeno, Lucas Pouille and Jack Draper.

The Mutua Madrid Open celebrates in this edition the 20th anniversary of the tournament whose current champions are Alexander Zverev and Aryna Sabalenka. The WTA qualifying will be on April 26-27, with the women’s main draw starting on Thursday, April 28. The ATP preliminary phase will be on April 30 and May 1, with the men’s main starting on Monday 2.
