Andreescu wins her first Grand Slam and prevents the 24th for Serena

This edition of the US Open seems to be not devoid of shocking outcomes. While men’s section has already served us a huge list of unexpected outcomes, women’s section of the series has just offered a huge setback for Serena Williams.

Yes, the Canadian Bianca Andreescu upset Serena Williams by 6-3 and 7-5 in the US Open final to win her very first US Open Final, nay, her first-ever Grand Slam final. Bianca has always wanted and dreamt of playing with Serena Williams.

Evidently enough, she has studied Serena over the years and has understood her style of game. Perhaps she has also imbibed some of her style and game strategies. It was showing in her final game against Williams. She was aware that she needed to hit big and be as bold as Williams.

That was exactly what she did on Saturday. She showed the same – in your face style of game that Serena Williams has been known for. In a way, she beat Williams in her own game. While she won her first ever game, she stopped Williams from winning her 24th Grand Slam title.

However, Bianca Andreescu was full of praises for Williams, “She’s an inspiration to many, many people, not only athletes. What she’s done off the court, too. She’s truly a champion. Above all, she’s very kind-hearted. She came up to me in the locker room; she said some really nice things, which I’ll cherish for a really, really long time,”

This is the second time in a row that Williams has lost for the second time in a row. In 2018, she lost to Naomi Osaka of Japan. She too gave credit to her opponent, saying “I honestly didn’t play my best today. I could have played better. That’s the only solace that I can take right now.”
