Analysis of World Cup teams: Group E

The 2022 FIFA World Cup is fast approaching and as you would expect, all the latest from each groups of the tournament will be analyzed to give you our reader a clearer perspective on what to expect. This article will center its focus on group E, where valuable betting tips such as Germany World Cup odds come to light.

Group E is seen as one of the groups of death at the Mundial. The group consists of two former World and European champions Germany and Spain. The group also has North American Costa Rica and Asian representatives Japan.

Spain who won their first and only World Cup title in 2010 have all it takes to go all the way in Qatar. Their impressive run at the Euros showed the World what to expect going forward, as the head coach Luis Enrique continues to fine-tune his side to the required standards. Though now largely populated by younger talents, La Roja are playing their best football since 2010, and there is more to come.

Die Mannschaft went through some rough times after their World Cup triumph in 2014. Their disgraceful group stage exit in Russia was the height of their depreciation. However, the appointment of former Bayern Munich manager, Hansi Flick appears to have galvanized the German engines.

The Japanese National team have developed a habit of bottling when it matters most at the World Cup. In their last appearance at Russia, they lost 2-3 to Belgium despite being ahead by two goals. This time around, they go into Qatar as heavy underdogs to even advance from the group.

Who are the favorites in Group E?

In a group that has two World Cup powerhouses, it is difficult to give any room for the other countries to advance from the group. The likes of Japan and Costa Rica would have to conjure up something spectacular to be able to make it out of the group.

Germany have ensured that there is a gradual yet systemic transition from the more experienced members of the squad to the younger and hungrier players. The likes of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz have had difficult spells in England but in the German shirt, they are different animals. While they still retain their evergreen goalkeeper in Manuel Neuer, almost every area of the pitch has experienced a shake-up since Flick’s arrival.

Elsewhere, Spain have unearthed a real gem in Gavi. The Barcelona youngster surprisingly is better rated in the national team than at his club. He, Ansu Fati and Pedri’s development has greatly brewed hope and expectations in Spain.

The Costa Ricans booked their place in Qatar after seeing New Zealand off in their intercontinental playoff fixture. In a keenly contested fixture, they had former Gunners striker Joel Campbell to thank for his sole strike.

Los Ticos know the enormous task ahead of them and expectations are not high among the fans. The bookies also recognize that, hence the low probability of them either winning or advancing from the group.

The Japanese are fast becoming a regular at the World Cup, but they have consistently huffed and puffed in their last three appearances, given the strength of the opposition they face, it looks like we could expect more of the same.

The odds for each team according to the bookies are as follows;

  • Spain (-110)
  • Germany (+110)
  • Japan (+1100)
  • Costa Rica (+4000)

Who can advance to the next round?

The odds provided by the bookies already give a clear perspective of the teams expected to scale through from group E. Germany have rebuilt their team under Hansi Flick and look a very different proposition going to Qatar. On the other hand, Spain have done almost the same and their energetic, young team are rolling back the years of their glorious football. It is quite difficult to see either of both sides miss out.

However, this is the most prestigious event in the round leather game so there are no limits to possible outcomes. Japan are no minnows in football and have had brilliant performances at the Mundial in times past, but this edition does not look like one of them. The Costa Ricans unfortunately might have to book an early ticket home given the circumstances, but never say never.

Who are the best Players?

There is no gainsaying that Germany and Spain are concentrated with the bulk of quality available in this group. Both sides have established players in every area of the pitch. Here are the best players in the group.

  • Manuel Neuer: The legendary Bayern Munich goal keeper is widely seen as one of the greatest of all time for his ability to use his feet as well as his hands. Although, it must be said that he is past his prime and this could be his last World Cup appearance.
  • Pedri: The young Barcelona star has matured far beyond his years and is genuine quality.
  • Takumi Minamino: The former Liverpool star headlines the Japanese roster due to his exposure and ability to be decisive.
  • Keylor Navas: The PSG goalie is undoubtedly the biggest export of his nation.
