Ana Rosa Quintana will talk about politics when she premieres her new program in the afternoons on Telecinco, although obviously she will not mount an analytical debate like the one she now moderates in the mornings. “I am not going to have a gathering in the afternoon, but if there is a political issue, of course I am going to deal with it.”
Politics, supposedly, was prohibited in the new Mediaset since the publication of the chain’s new code of ethics and was completely excluded from the contents of Save me. Alessandro Salem himself explained it in an interview, but Ana Rosa qualifies the words of the CEO of the audiovisual group.
“What he said, which is sensible, is that the afternoon is not for making big brainy debates, but when you do a current affairs program… politics is everything: pensions, what happens in the pandemic, changing a penal code…”, he says. “Salem has a lot of experience and is very intelligent. What I have spoken with him is that he means that it does not make sense to bring morning to afternoon. There has not been a change of opinion on his part,” she insists.
The idea of jumping into the afternoon was proposed to him by Salem Me “in December, the first time I saw him in Madrid”. “He told me: ‘I want you to do the evenings’. And I: ‘Yes, great, have a drink…”, he recalled. “And a couple of months later he asked me that I had to change the afternoons, that the best option was me and I understood that the chain that has given me 19 years of success needed me, I couldn’t say no.”
Ana Rose He will be in the morning until July 25 and then he will go on vacation. He will return in September to present TardeAR, the new afternoon program, which will begin at the end of the month, predictably on the 25th, although neither she nor Mediaset have confirmed the date. The only thing that the presenter has said on this matter is that “it will not be at the beginning of September, that’s for sure.”
You say you want to make “a modern program” but it won’t look like Save me. “We are going to make our program; a Unicorn program,” explains the presenter of TardeAR –“I chose the name because I really like tardeo” -. In her new slot, Ana Rosa will present Monday and Thursday – “it was the agreement I reached with the doctors” – as she has done since she returned from her medical leave and on Fridays Beatriz Archidona will take over.
As for the collaborators, he will recover Antonio Hidalgo –already works in Fiestawhere it has been tested, as we explained– and has signed Manu Marlasca, until now in La Sexta. Regarding the flight of social gatherings -Beatriz Cortázar, Paloma García Pelayo and Cruz Morcillo- who have gone to Atresmedia, he explains that he had no option for them to stay at Mediaset. “There was no opportunity to retain them. When they told us, it was already done. But I also understand that everyone has the right to change companies, programs and ensure their economic future. I could not pay what they are being paid.”
In her new stage, Ana Rosa will compete against Sonsoles Ónega, who was her ‘student’ in it’s already noon (also produced by Unicorn). Asked if he has spoken to her since he knows they are going to be her rivals, Quintana has been emphatic: “No.”
