The triple jumper Ana Peleteiro and the walker Marc Tur have been chosen this Saturday “best Spanish athletes of the year 2021” at the Spanish Athletics Gala, held this Saturday at the Goyeneche auditorium of the Spanish Olympic Committee, in Madrid.
Peleteiro defeated María Pérez and Marta Pérez, the other two finalists for best athlete of the year. In the balance of the Galician she weighed her two international medals of 2021: the silver in the European indoor track in Torun and especially the bronze in the Tokyo Olympics. In the Japanese capital, Peleteiro also broke her own Spanish triple jump record with 14.87 meters.
For his part, Marc Tur took the award for best male athlete ahead of Mohamed Katir, Adel Mechaal and Asier Martínez for the first time in the history of Spanish athletics galas, which nominated four finalists instead of three.
The Ibizan walker made history in 2021 by winning the 50 km walk in the Podebrady European Cup with 3:47:40, the tenth best Spanish time ever, and touched the Olympic podium with a fourth place in Tokyo in the same distance . These performances have served him to win the award this Saturday.
