The Spanish ‘breaker’, great attraction of Madrid Urban Sports in its third edition
“I am still in the process of learning to manage nerves and pressure,” he admits in an interview with Europa Press
MADRID, 15 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish ‘breaker’ Ana ‘Furia’ Ortega, a candidate to be at the Paris 2024 Games and a great attraction for Madrid Urban Sports (MUS) from June 16 to 18, has stated that she “does not” want to be obsessed with the Olympic ranking , since “later you may not reach” high expectations because “there are many things that do not depend” on the participants themselves.
“It doesn’t obsess me. In fact, I want it not to obsess me. When they ask me many times what number I’m going to, I always have to ask because I don’t want to get obsessed with ‘I have to be there’ or such, because then this happens to me”, he admitted ‘Fury’ during an interview with Europa Press, alluding to his discreet performance in the recent European Breaking Championship held in Almería.
“There is a lot of room for improvement, I had expectations of a better position. But hey, happy, it makes me earn points in the ranking, so I’m happy”, she clarified about her participation in said event in Almería. Thus, the Catalan ‘breaker’ added 260 points for the computation of the Olympic ranking, by virtue of her thirteenth final position.
In this sense, ‘Fury’ has explained the importance of the mental aspect in each competition. “Then maybe you don’t make it, or whatever it is you have a bad day, because there are a lot of things that don’t depend on you. So when you can’t deal with it, I don’t want it to rebound and start to make me sad.” “, he argued about it.
“Right now what weighs me the most is that an event does not go well for me, for example,” he acknowledged. “That’s what is taking me the most. Because normally in my ‘training’ days I am grateful, I feel that my body is becoming more optimal and I feel that I am improving in many things and especially in breaking”, he added.
He will be able to deploy his movements in the MUS 2023, whose third edition is valid for that Olympic ranking and will be held again on the Madrid Río-Matadero esplanade. 480 athletes of around thirty nationalities will gather to compete in the main disciplines of skateboarding, BMX, breakdancing and scooter racing.
The Catalan has underlined what is out of control in each test. “It is true that, when it comes to competing, there are many factors that do not depend on me; or yes, that I am not up to date or that I am not at 100% in my entirety or whatever. And then, when I I remain more thoughtful, it is always after a competition”, she reiterated.
“Let’s see, it’s very difficult not to have pressure because in the end you end up creating yourself some expectations of saying ‘yes or yes I have to pass the round or qualify’. And that is pressure yes or yes. So, in the end you try to do the best that you can. It’s a difficult question because I don’t know yet”, ‘Furia’ answered about over-analyzing each failure in a new discipline for the Olympic Games.
“I AM STILL IN THE PROCESS OF LEARNING TO MANAGE NERVES AND PRESSURES”
“I’m still in the process of accepting and learning to manage all those nerves and all those pressures. The only thing we’re saying to each other is that, win or lose, we’re going to arrive on Monday and we’re going to arrive in the same room at continue training”, he declared, as a result of the good atmosphere that he lives in the Joaquín Blume Residence of the Higher Sports Council (CSD).
She and her training partners try to “carry in the best possible way” day to day, in a discipline that will debut its Olympic status in Paris 2024. “Above all for me it is very important to feel the love of my teammates, which gives me makes it better,” he stressed about the atmosphere at the High Performance Center.
Despite the mutual support between ‘breakers’, ‘Furia’ has confessed that the Olympic debut is a whirlwind. “I feel totally out of my comfort zone. I mean… I always say it, I always go game by game. So, I want to take it that way and above all I want to enjoy the journey a lot. Otherwise, this doesn’t make sense”, has indicated.
“Sometimes the time comes and it goes by so fast… In other words, a competition goes by so quickly. And sometimes we win and we don’t value it,” he reflected. “The day comes and it goes by super, super fast and it’s like ‘that’s it’. So all that suffering… getting there suffering is not worth it,” he repeated.
Lastly, ‘Furia’ has minimized the stress ahead of MUS 2023 and also for the demanding road to Paris 2024. “I try to take it as best I can and enjoy every day. And to be grateful above all for saying: ‘I’m doing what I really want'”, the Catalan finally highlighted.
