The goal that was seen this weekend in the Iranian soccer league was surprising. Mahan rahmani, Peykan FC soccer player, executed a powerful throw-in, catapulting the ball with a somersault directly into the goal.
We have seen this type of serve on occasion in Europe to give more momentum and, therefore, reach the throw-in. A similar launch went viral at the 2018 World Cup thanks to another Iranian, Milad Mohammadi Keshmarzi, who tried the same serve against Spain with a very different result.
In any case, beyond the striking of the action, if that ball had not touched anyone, it would not have been a goal. But what nobody expected was the collaboration of the rival goalkeeper, Alireza Haghighi, who thanks to his faulty clearance gave continuity to the throw-in and, consequently, validity to both.
