An epic double by Vicky López puts Spain in the semifinals of the U-17 World Cup

MADRID, 22 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish women’s U-17 soccer team qualified for the semifinal round of the 2022 World Cup that is being played in India by beating Japan (1-2) in an epic outcome, with a double by Vicky López to culminate the comeback in the 93rd minute.

Spain will be measured in the final against Germany, next Wednesday, after beating a Japan that reached the quarterfinals undefeated. The Fatorda Stadium in Goa hosted a clash of Spanish domination and siege, almost a monologue against the Asians, but without success.

Carla Camacho did not have her day and she forgave a couple of good chances and, above all, a penalty to put Spain ahead. The second half was also one of Kenio Gonzalo’s, but Japan took the lead with a long shot straight into Momoko Tamikawa’s top box.

Spain did not lose their cool and kept looking for the goal, reaching 1-1 in the 87th minute with Vicky López hunting the shot in a melee in the area and in a bad action by the rival goal.

Vicky herself sealed the comeback in the 93rd minute, dribbling in the box to make it 1-2. Germany will be the rival of the Spanish while, on the other side of the table, Nigeria and Colombia will play the other ticket to the final.
