Ambros Martín: “We hope to improve as the competition progresses”

MADRID, 1 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The national women's handball coach, Ambros Martín, accepted the second match in the 2023 World Cup, the victory (32-20) over Ukraine, and trusted that the 'Guerreras' will continue the progression in their game “as it progresses the competition”.

“We are already in the Main Round and we want to continue with this evolution in the game. We have taken an important step with respect to the debut, it is important to maintain a strong defense with a goalkeeper with good interventions and a fluid attack. We have things to improve but we hope that as the competition progresses we will be able to do it,” he said in statements provided by the Royal Spanish Handball Federation (RFEBM), collected by Europa Press.

The 'Guerreras' secured their presence in the next phase of the tournament with a second victory at the Arena Nord that also showed the need to take a step forward ahead of the closing of Group G against Brazil, with two important points at stake on Sunday .

“At the beginning of the game we were good. We made some mistakes in defense, we didn't know how to control the situations of their best player in the one-on-one situation. Then we improved and played a fairly complete game. One drawback could be the numerical superiority, They have scored four goals into an empty net,” he said.

On the other hand, the national coach had words of recognition towards Ukraine, for its ability to compete in the midst of the situation that its country is experiencing at war. “I would like to mention the attitude of the Ukrainian women, at the moment they are in how they have fought, to show them all my support. Not only for sport, but also for Ukrainian society,” he confessed.
