Alvin Attles, the coach who led the Golden State Warriors to NBA championships in the 1974-1975 season, died Tuesday at the age of 87, the Oakland franchise announced Wednesday.
Attles, a Hall of Famer, spent more than six decades with the organization as a player, general manager and, most recently, as a franchise ambassador. Nicknamed “The Destroyer,” he played only with the Warriors, who selected him in the fifth round of the 1960 draft.
He then coached them from the bench to their first title since their move to the Western Conference, and was not replaced until 40 years later. His 557 wins as coach are the most in franchise history, the NBA noted on its website.
