Diego García Carrera: “He had to suffer at the end, a few very hard minutes that are enjoyed throughout life”

The Spanish athlete Álvaro Martín recognized that Germany is “good” at him, after managing to revalidate his continental gold in the 20-kilometer test this Sunday in Munich, a “very difficult” feat that he already achieved in 2018 in Berlin.
“It seems that I’m good at Germany. It was a great day, being able to repeat a feat that was very difficult for me four years ago. You always have that beautiful memory of 2018, it seemed to me at times that I was like in Berlin” , he said in statements provided by the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA), collected by Europa Press.
The man from Extremadura managed to recover from his seventh position in the Eugene World Cup. “I have removed a bit of the ‘thorn’ that I had from the World Cup. We have made some changes in the final part of the test in preparation. The work has been seen. Hopefully I can try to repeat it in four years,” said Martín.
“We like to win the European Championships, the Spanish team obviously wants to aspire to do well, not only in the continental championship, but also in the Olympic Games and in the World Cups”, added the athlete, who achieved a meritorious fourth place in the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020 and won gold at the Ibero-American Championship held in La Nucía in May.

For his part, Diego García Carrera got the bronze in the test. “He had to suffer in the end. He had to convince himself that he was worth the effort, a few very hard minutes but that are enjoyed throughout life”, he explained.
“This medal certifies the good work for a long time. There are things that can be improved and between now and the Olympic Games in Paris, the great objective of this cycle, we will improve to reach the competition with more guarantees,” said the athlete, who managed to repeat the podium after the silver harvested in the 2018 European Championship.
“After all the season, the medal tastes like glory. It gave me flatus with four kilometers to go as if I couldn’t breathe and I stopped, but it lasted a few meters,” he said.
