Alonso: “We could have fought for pole”

MADRID, 9 Apr. (SportsFinding) –

The Spanish driver Fernando Alonso (Alpine) has recognized that it is “frustrating” to have suffered a mechanical problem in his car just when he was in a position to fight for pole position in the qualifying session of the Australian Grand Prix, the third round of the Formula World Championship 1, and has stated that he wants “all or nothing” in Sunday’s race.

“We had been waiting for a long time to fight for pole position, and having a problem the first time you arrive is a bit frustrating. If you have problems, you want them when you are eleventh or twelfth, when you are not fighting for anything important. It is what Let’s see what can be done tomorrow,” he told DAZN.

The Asturian went against the protections at Turn 11 of Albert Park when he had marked the second best sector of the session. “Due to a hydraulic problem, he didn’t have the gear change, and neither did the power steering. Everything went off in that corner,” he assured.

“It’s a shame, because I think it was a tenth better than pole, I had two sets of tires that we saved also in Q1 and Q2… We could have fought for pole. We were having the best weekend in many years. The truth is that having another problem in my car is quite frustrating, but let’s see if we finish it”, he continued.

The two-time world champion will start tenth, as long as he does not have to change any power unit that forces him to serve a penalty. “We have to see if we have to change anything in the car that will cause us to have a penalty, but right now I don’t care. I wanted to fight for pole and be on the podium tomorrow. If we take any points, fine, and if we don’t We take, well too. I prefer all or nothing, and at the moment bad luck is holding us back completely, “he concluded.
