MADRID, 24 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Spanish Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso (Alpine) regretted the fourteenth position he achieved this Saturday in qualifying for the United States Grand Prix, which takes place at the Austin circuit, and assured that “it will be difficult to overtake”, but it is something that will try despite being a “crooked” weekend in terms of competitiveness.
“Today the mission was to do Q1 and then try to help Esteban Ocon to get into Q3. But we have not been very competitive all weekend in general. For that reason we decided to change the engine here, it seems that the points were going to be complicated, “said the Asturian in statements to DAZN.
“We are going to try tomorrow in a different way. We have new, hard, medium wheels and hopefully we can take advantage of them and achieve a few points,” said the two-time world champion, who made it clear that “it is possible to overtake” in Austin.
“Yes you can, but you need an 8-tenth or a second advantage. That is only achieved with good wheels in better condition than the rest, but if there is no ‘safety car’ or something with which we can deviate from the normal strategy and standard, it will be difficult to overtake. It is a crooked weekend in terms of competitiveness, “said Alonso.
