Almeida believes that the negotiations for Madrid to have an F-1 GP are going “reasonably well”

MADRID, 10 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, affirmed this Wednesday that the negotiations for the capital of Spain to host a Formula 1 Grand Prix in the coming years “are going reasonably well”, although he did not dare to give a percentage of possibilities .

“Negotiations to have a Grand Prix in Madrid are going reasonably well. It is one of the great events there are and cities are measured by their ability to attract great events,” said the mayor in his participation in the Europa Press Madrid Breakfasts, sponsored by Grant Thornton, Ibercaja, Meeting Place Castellana 81 and Valdecarros Madrid.

In this sense, Almeida stressed that Formula One “is a huge event that has been negotiating for months by IFEMA”, although he preferred not to speculate on the date on which the ‘great circus’ will land in the capital of Spain. “I’m not going to give a percentage chance,” he said.

In this way, Madrid would once again host a Formula One World Cup race after more than 40 years of absence from the last one held on the RACE-Jarama circuit, although everything indicates that the chosen scenario would be an urban layout through the fairgrounds of IFEMA.

In this sense, José Vicente de los Mozos, president of IFEMA, has already maintained contacts with the person in charge of the championship, Stefano Domenicali, who has received the offer from Madrid to organize this Grand Prix. Despite the fact that there is no official date, there could be Formula One in Madrid again from 2027, since the Barcelona circuit of Montmeló has a contract with F-1 until 2026 and it seems complicated that a country, except the United States, You can count on two careers, although there would also be the option of alternating.
