MADRID, 17 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The coach of Juventus, Massimiliano Allegri, lamented the elimination of his team in the round of 16 of the ‘Champions’ at the hands of Villarreal (0-3) and stressed that they were “very naive in granting that penalty”, in relation to the goal that opened the account for the Spanish team this Wednesday at Juventus Stadium.
“Villarreal is a very expert team and they took advantage of the chance they had, while we were very naive to concede that penalty. We regret the result because we had chances in the first leg and today as well. But I can’t say much to my players, they only have to continue working as we have done up to now,” Allegri said after the defeat.
“We had good chances in the first half, less so in the second because Villarreal started defending with 11 men, clearly trying to take the game to extra time. Then that goal changed everything,” he added about the 0-1 score, Gerard’s work Moreno from eleven meters with 12 minutes to go.
“We have to accept this bad defeat but we played well for most of the game. But I can’t blame the boys for anything: I congratulate Emery and Villarreal because they played a clean game. Their intention was maybe to take the game to extra time or take advantage of the episode, and they did it in the best way,” he said.
