Aliona Bolsova will replace the injured Garbiñe Muguruza in the Spanish tennis team that will travel to the Netherlands next Monday to play the qualifying round of the Billie Jean King Cup, on April 15 and 16 in Bolduque (s-Hertogenbosch), in search of a place in the Finals this year, according to the Spanish Federation.
The woman from Girona will join the rest of the players summoned by the captain Anabel Medina, with Paula Badosa, Sara Sorribes, Nuria Párrizas and Rebeka Masárová.
After being eliminated in her debut in Indian Wells on March 24, Muguruza announced on social media that a left shoulder injury forced her to withdraw from the Miami and Houston tournaments. Bolsova has been this year quarterfinalist in the ITF World Tennis Tour W60 of Astana-1 in Kazakhstan, in addition to reaching the third round in the qualifying phase of the Australian Open.
Spain and the Netherlands have met on three previous occasions in the old Federation Cup (1988, 1989 and 1993), always with a Spanish victory. The tie will be played at the Maaspoort Sports & Events in s-Hertogenbosch, on indoor clay. Arantxa Rus, Lesley Pattinama Kerkhove, Arianne Artono and Demi Schuurs will play for the Netherlands.
