Alfred Schreuder, new Ajax manager

Ajax announced on Thursday the hiring of Alfred Schreuder as the new coach for next season, after Erik Ten Hag signed for Manchester United a few weeks ago.

“Ajax, Club Brugge and Alfred Schreuder have reached an agreement on a transfer to Ajax. Schreuder will sign a two-year contract starting after this season and ending on June 30, 2024. The deal includes a third-year option,” he says. the Amsterdam painting in an official statement.

The signing comes a day after Ajax won the league title, the Eredivisie, their 36th league title after defeating Heerenveen. Schreuder, a 49-year-old Dutchman, served as Ten Hag’s assistant between 2018 and 2019, and later served as first coach at Hoffenheim.

Schreuder was also Ronald Koeman’s assistant during his time on the bench at FC Barcelona and in January 2022 he signed for the Belgian Bruges, with whom he is competing for the title in the ‘playoffs’. “Being coach of Ajax is a great honor and a great opportunity,” said the coach in his first remarks.
