Àlex Granell says goodbye to Girona and heads to Bolívar

Farewells are never a dish of good taste, especially when it comes to one of the club's emblems and one of the most important footballers in the history of Girona. Last October 4, 2020 was the last time that Àlex Granell wore the red-and-white shirt of the team from his city, the team of his life and to which he is now saying goodbye to face a new challenge in South America after considering that his stage in Montilivi had finished.

The midfielder goes to play for Bolívar, the club run by one of Girona's shareholders, Marcelo Claure.

233 games defending the Girona shield, in which he has scored a total of 16 goals and has distributed 34 assists. A cycle in which Granell's left-hander, known throughout Spain after delighting everyone in his first year in the top division of Spanish football, has served as the leader of a project that now sees its main props leave.

It will be difficult to think that Àlex Granell will not be in the eleventh headlines of Francisco, nor in the calls, but neither in the press conferences, where he has always shown his face in the good times, which have been many, and the bad times, which are not they have been few. His charisma and attitude on and off the pitch have made him an idol for the entire city, someone with whom anyone who has pursued a dream since childhood and to whom absolutely no one has given anything as a gift can identify.

On his back, the “6” has many experiences, most of them unforgettable, but they have not been good for that. In the memory of the Catalan and of the whole city, June 4, 2017, will remain forever, the day on which Girona achieved promotion to the First Division, something that it had never achieved in its history. However, the several occasions in which the goal has remained very close, as it happened two months ago, have been very hard blows for a group of footballers who always rose again with the left-hander as a beacon.

The last two seasons have been difficult for everyone at Montilivi. A reduction and a non-promotion that seemed to have been achieved have ended up finishing the cycle of several players at Girona, including Borja and Granell himself, who surely would have preferred to leave in other circumstances. Despite the criticism received at this time, which even ended up causing his twitter account to be closed, no one can ever reproach him that the captain has always given everything for these colors.
