Belgium defender Tobi Alderweireld assured that his team feels “respect” for Portugal, their rival in the second round, but stressed that the “red devils” are “very hungry” for titles and enough quality to defeat the Portuguese on Sunday in Seville.
“We have quality forward and backward to beat them,” the 32-year-old Tottenham defender told Alderweireld at a press conference on Tuesday. The defender assured that the team led by Roberto Martínez, a team that “has been together for a long time” where “everyone knows what to do when they are ready to play”, will focus on their own assets.
“I respect yes, for his qualities. But we focus on our strengths. We have some of the best players in the world,” said the Belgium defender.
Alderweireld did not want to place Belgium as a favorite, not against Portugal or to win the European Championship title, but said that no opponent seems unbeatable.
“We have shown that we can beat anyone,” said the player, who, after analyzing his rival, recognized that they have “one of the best players in the world” with Cristiano Ronaldo, but stressed that the team as a whole has a lot of quality.
“It is not just Cristiano Ronaldo, it is the team. We know how high quality they have,” summarized Alderweireld.
