Alberto and Fran Contador visit the Malta stand at Fitur 2024

VisitMalta is one of the sponsors of the Contador Foundation team, Polti Kometa, invited to the next Giro

MADRID, 24 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The brothers Alberto and Fran Contador visited the Malta stand at Fitur 2024 this Wednesday, since 'VisitMalta' is one of the official sponsors of the Contador Foundation team, Polti Kometa, which this Tuesday received one of the invitations to compete the next Giro d'Italia.

Alberto and Fran Contador, who were received by the Maltese ambassador to Spain, Daniel Azzopardi, signed Polti Kometa jerseys that will be raffled among fans and coincided with former cyclist Pedro Delgado at the Maltese stand at the international tourism exhibition at Ifema .

“For us, the support of VisitMalta is very important and makes the project viable. Our collaboration with VisitMalta began at the Giro d'Italia, where they have a great representation. We are going to continue in the same direction because we believe that Malta, despite being very famous, is a great unknown for many people and cycling is a great vehicle to open that showcase and that paradise to visit,” Alberto Contador told Europa Press.

The former Madrid cyclist highlighted that the weather on the island is “spectacular.” “Malta, due to its location, has a very good and favorable climate for cycling. It is true that for road cycling and doing very long training sessions you have to go around the island, but there are also many other options such as 'mountain bike' or gravel. It is a very good showcase for the cycling practitioner,” he stressed.

With 7,000 years of history, the Maltese islands -Malta, Gozo and Comino- offer archaeological attractions, declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO, and places that were chosen to film films such as 'Troy', 'Gladiator', 'Munich', 'The Count of Monte Cristo', 'Vicky the Viking', 'Agora' or the series 'Game of Thrones'.
