Albert Torres, eleventh in the omnium of the European Track Championships

MADRID, 14 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Spanish cyclist Albert Torres finished eleventh in the omnium of the European Track Championships being held in Apeldoorn (Netherlands).

After two years without facing a top-level omnium, since the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Torres returned with an eleventh position at the Apeldoorn Velodrome. The Menorcan started with a seventh position in a scratch test that was soon blown up by the cut caused by Yonne Dorenbos.

Torres won the sprint among the runners who had not added a lap to start positively, but in the tempo race he did not find points and had to settle for eleventh place. Later, the referees forced him to leave the elimination because they considered that the Spaniard entered the blue corridor, twelfth and, overall, tenth in the absence of the score.

In the final competition of this omnium, Torres took center stage in the second half, scoring points in the last two distributions. In total, he five more points to finish with 71 in eleventh place. “The feelings are of frustration, I had prepared this European Championship very well, but the flu that I have suffered since the beginning of the year has weighed me down more than I thought and now I just have to recover and accept it,” he said in statements provided by the Royal Spanish Federation. of Cycling (RFEC).

“I cannot draw many conclusions due to this circumstance, it hurts me not to have been able to offer my best version due to these health problems, but I am left with the desire I had to return and to have been able to be here,” he added.

In addition, the Spanish team was represented this Saturday in the women's scoring and elimination. In the points test, Eukene Larrarte was 13th while Laura Rodríguez finished 14th in elimination.
