Aitana Bonmatí: “Sometimes you need a stick like this to grow”

MADRID, 31 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The player of the Spanish team Aitana Bonmatí pointed out that a “stick” like the one they experienced in the defeat against Japan (4-0) at the end of the group stage is necessary to grow as a team and, with a view to the round of 16 in the final against Switzerland, assures that they will learn from what they experienced against the Japanese.

“Sometimes you need one of these sticks to grow and to be more of a team than ever, so for my part I apologize, today was not our best game and also the result is very bulky, we are not proud of what we have done” , he assured on RTVE after the game.

For Aitana, the result “says it all”; “It wasn’t our best game”. “I think Japan set up their game, they knew what they were playing for, to wait for us behind. They set up a low block, they knew that we are offensive and that our full-backs go up and they took advantage of those spaces when we lost the ball to kill us on the counter”, pointed out the blaugrana.

“Each counter was half a goal and it has also cost us a lot to attack that low block. Well, we are in the round of 16, I think it is a tough stick but we have reaction time and football always gives you second chances”, he lamented, in this sense.

Against Switzerland, however, they will have a new opportunity to recover the best level. “All the teams that have seen today’s game will say ‘these go up and leave a gap behind them’, but we will correct it because you learn from this, we are going to take the positive from today and it will make us stronger,” she stressed.
