Ainhoa Tirapu leaves Athletic

Athletic today made official the dismissal of Ainhoa Tirapu as the goalkeeping coach of the rojiblanco club in order to dedicate herself exclusively to her candidacy for president of the Women’s Soccer League. The Navarrese became part of the Lezama coaching staff in July 2020 after having hung up the gloves.

“From Athletic we wish him all the luck in his future professional career, while we appreciate his dedication and dedication shown in defending the interests of the entity for 17 years”, says the Bilbao club.

Tirapu will lead a candidacy to preside over the new Women’s Professional Football League together with Dolores Martelli, former director of women’s football of the Spanish Football Federation, who would occupy the vice presidency. The Higher Sports Council approved on March 14 the Statutes of the new League. From there a new stage begins.

“We want to bring everyone together and offer our knowledge and experience in management from the field of play, so that women’s football has sustainable growth and is a good platform for companies to give it the financing it needs to be a product independent,” Tirapu explained a few days ago.

The Navarrese, who came to play 358 games during 15 seasons as a red and white, will present the candidacy called ‘United for football’. “I have been in football for many years, I have experienced all the parts and in all the processes there have almost always been sticks in the wheels. We have the opportunity to create an independent product and we can do it by passing on what we have learned along the way. It is about uniting, rather than dividing, in search of common objectives for sustainable growth and not in a punctual way”, explains the former Athletic goalkeeper.
