AFE decides its future at the polls between Aganzo or Toquero

The Association of Spanish Footballers (AFE) today celebrates its elections to members of the Board of Directors. David Aganzo, who is running for re-election after having replaced Luis Rubiales in 2017, and Gaizka Toquero choose to lead a union that has gone from managing a budget of three million to having to manage another of 15 today and that has 11,908 affiliates.

Today's vote at the association's headquarters (Gran Vía 30), from 10:00 to 18:00, will be testimonial since the bulk of voters have already exercised their right by mail due to the difficulty of traveling to the capital (another day begins today) and due to the strict sanitary measures. To be able to vote, you must be of legal age, be a member prior to the call and not be penalized. Of the total number of players who are called to the polls, 6.48% belong to First and Second, 15.47% to 2ndB, 38.82% to Third and lower categories and 3.36% to First , Second and National female. Of these, 9.31% reside abroad. The remaining 26.56% are retired or without equipment.

Uncertainty. There will finally be some excitement after AFE's 43-year history. Since Quino beat Villar in 1978, the single candidacy has always prevailed. The first president was until 1982, although he was relieved for a year by Asensio. Then Iriarte arrived. There, the players did vote since, despite being the only candidate, their legality was questioned for having remained a member of the management board. Gerardo González succeeded him (1988) until he withdrew his candidacy in 2010 due to mistrust with his board of directors, so he left Rubiales free. The president of the RFEF remained until 2017. When he left for Las Rozas, he appointed Aganzo, with whom there is no talk now and whom he has removed from his Board.

The former forward's mandate in AFE has been punctuated by resounding successes such as the women's agreement and by internal struggles that are settled in the courts. Aganzo once again trusts Diego Rivas as his second and has Camacho, Jordi Alba, Morales, Lucas Pérez and Jade in his team. Toquero, who hung up his boots 18 months ago, has Armindo as general secretary and has the support of the #AFEUnidos platform, Iborra, Jesule, Tito and Ivana.

The complexity of the mail count could presumably mean that the result is not known until tomorrow. There are two days to plead. On Wednesday there will be a president. The same or a new one.
