The military invasion of Russia on Ukrainian soil is leading to the breaking of contracts with major brands and companies on the world scene by football clubs and entities. In this case, the team affected by the conflict has once again been the Russian soccer team.. The national team, expelled from the Qatar 2022 World Cup by FIFA, has now seen how the sports giant Adidas has immediately suspended sponsorship with the Russian Football Federation in order to show its support for the Ukrainian people. This has been reported through an official statement by the sports equipment brand: “Adidas suspends its association with the Russian Football Association (RFS) with immediate effect”.
Adidas generated 2.9% of its turnover in 2020 in the regions of Russia, Ukraine and the CIS, the Italian news agency also reports ANSA. And it is that the German brand, which dressed Russia for the first time in the 1992/1993 season, celebrated 14 years (in 2022) producing the Russian team’s uniforms without interruption. If a few days ago it was Schalke 04 and Manchester United who made the decision to terminate their respective sponsorship contracts with Russian companies, now it is the brands themselves who are disassociating themselves from the invading country.
It is also the case of General Motors, which has confirmed the suspension of the shipment of goods to the countryas collected Bloomberg, where it establishes “a series of external factors and other matters beyond the control of the company”. Likewise, the motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson has suspended economic activity in the Russian country.
