MADRID, 17 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –
RCD Mallorca, with a solitary penalty goal from Abdón Prats, beat Real Sociedad (1-0) on Tuesday in the early game of the seventh round of LaLiga EA Sports, a result that puts the Bermellones in the continental zone and leaves the San Sebastian team in trouble.
After a couple of warnings, one from each team, in the first minutes, Ander Barrenetxea tried the clearest chance for the ‘txuri urdin’ to Leo Román, who saved his shot. Raíllo and Cyle Larin also tried against a San Sebastian team that suffered from the pressure and the dead balls of the Balearic team.
After half an hour, the home side called for Barrenetxea to be given a handball in a move in which he blocked Samú Costa’s shot, and, after consulting the VAR, the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Abdón Prats faced Álex Remiro and put the first goal on the scoreboard (min.36).
Jagoba Arrasate’s men scored again at the start of the second half, in the 57th minute, with a cross from Sergi Darder that was headed in by Larin, but this time the referee ruled the goal out for a millimetre offside by the Canadian.
The match became even more lively, with both teams attacking and creating chances. Just before the break, Leo Román appeared to save the Vermilion team by punching away a dangerous shot from Luka Sucic.
Mallorca thus has eight points and rises to sixth place, the last of the places that can qualify for European competition, while Real Sociedad has only added one of the last 12 points at stake and is sixteenth with four points, just one more than the relegation zone.
