Despite the imminent recovery of Kylian Mbappé, PSG will have a surprise in tonight’s eleven. According to information from L’Équipe, Idrissa Gueye has been the midfielder chosen by Mauricio Pochettino to accompany Verratti and Danilo in the midfield at the Santiago Bernabéu. The Senegalese, who has had an irregular season, would thus prevail over Leandro Paredes, a fundamental piece for the coach, but who is coming off injury.
After the first leg played at the Parc des Princes, Paredes felt some discomfort in the groin that was already dragging from previous days. Since then, the midfielder hasn’t played again after a recurrence of injury, being absent against Nantes, Saint-Étienne and Nice and coming fairly close to tonight’s contest.
Gueye’s presence in midfield is a declaration of intent by Pochettino. The former Everton player is a player with an important capacity for sacrifice and with an extraordinary speed when it comes to pressing. Although PSG will lose a technical player like Paredes, with Gueye they will gain one more asset to press in the rival field or to help cover the full-backs.
