a “shameful waste” of 328,000 euros

The Iglesias brothers have started the week in the worst possible way: TVE has decided to cancel the broadcast of their programme this week following the resounding failure in ratings. Chabeli and Julio Josewho presented their programme at the beginning of the summer with great enthusiasm, have not only failed to win over viewers with their botched jobs but have also received a tremendous avalanche of criticism on social networks for the stratospheric salary they have received from the public treasury: “The waste of public money is a disgrace. Have they already fired the person who hired them from TVE?”

And the signing of the Iglesias has not been cheap: Isabel Preysler’s eldest daughter earns 28,000 euros for each show, while her brother pockets 13,000 euros for each program, a total 224.000 y 104.000 eurosrespectively, for the eight episodes that make up the first season. Taking into account that the average annual salary in Spain is about 30,237 euros, the indignation on social networks has been overwhelming: “They could donate the profits to NGOs that help refugees and cover housing expenses”, “Will they charge for the ones not broadcast? Because that would be a farce”, “How indecent and unjustified, it is so surreal, if there was more talk about TVE salaries in certain little programs over the last few years it would get really complicated”, “Money calls money. And here we tend to pay lazy people and criminals. The rest of the Spaniards work (if possible) for the minimum wage” or “Tamara, Ana Boyer and now these two… What does RTVE owe the Preyslers to give them so much money? It is unacceptable” are some of the messages that can be read on the social network X this Monday.

The programme, produced by RTVE in collaboration with Beta Entertainment Spain and directed by Carlos Hierro and Elena Zapata, has been on the air for three weeks. It is a friendly format in which the Iglesias brothers show their talents for decoration and interior design by renovating the homes of celebrities who request their services. For the moment they have remodelled the home of Beatriz Luengo and Yotuel in Miami, the one of Omar Monteswhich he acquired in one of the most exclusive areas of Madrid after his latest musical successes, that of his mother, Isabel Preyslerin Puerta de Hierro, and that of Ana Obregonin La Moraleja. The programmes have been recorded between Miami and Madrid. The format has a cost per programme of 244,664.99 euros, according to Transparencia, reaching the figure of 1,957,319.88 euros for the eight episodes of this first season.
