Zverev and Ruud improve as Medvedev adjusts to the ground

Alexander Zverev, who needed five sets to get through the first round at Roland Garros, happened this wednesday to the third with fewer shocks and better game than last Sunday. The German prevailed by 7-6 (4), 6-3 and 7-6 (1) in 2:27 to Russian Safiulin, Carlos Taberner's executioner, and will face Serbian Laslo Djere on Friday, who could with his compatriot Kecmanovic in a long and competitive duel (4-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 in 3h : 31).

Zverev had beaten Safiullin three times and on clay as a junior, and he beat him again in the ATP category with 41 winning shots (15 from direct service) and 80% of points won with firsts, although it cost him more than the score indicates.

Casper Ruud also improved with respect to his debut and passed over the Polish Majchrzak (6-3, 6-2 and 6-4 in 1h: 53). The Norwegian thus achieved the pass to the third round for the third consecutive year and in it he will face Alejandro Davidovich or Van de Zandschulp.

Medvedev feels the pulse of the earth

Daniil Medvedev, who had not won a game in his previous four Roland Garros appearances and joked that he would win one in 2050, already has two victories in the 2021 edition after coming back against the American Tommy paul, champion on his day of the junior tournament that he was in good shape after reaching the semi-finals in Parma. The Russian won 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 and 6-3 in 2:18 and will be measured in the third round with another American, Reilly Opelka. Medvedev served better than his rival, won 50% of his remains and did not miss too much (32 unforced errors) for his game. It seems that he has arrived well prepared and before Paul he resorted quite a lot to the left and with enough success.
